FEAR (Face Everything and Rise) is one of the best pieces of advice I have received. As a leader, I realized that being objective about the facts at hand, taking the emotions out of stress, worry and euphoria out of the situation it as it is. If I could objectively look at every situation good and bad as a CEO, I could make better decisions faster. I could get out to market and experiment faster without the FEAR of testing and being wrong. The two most critical assets I have a leader is serving my employees with great empathy and TIME. One is unlimited and the latter is finite. Getting to market fast means facing everything and rising to the decision.
That sounds great doesn't it.
It is scary as shit. Try facing everything in your business without deep emotions? If you have the formula to do it perfect everyday, please text me. This is the single hardest thing I do everyday as a leader. Getting my emotional shit out of the way and looking at the facts - and then having the courage to move quickly is hard for me. But why do it?
1. Drive for Excellence
"Fear of failure motivates leaders to strive for excellence." - Bullshit. Excellence comes from forging your courage to fail by looking at every situation as a real opportunity for growth.
"High standards are set due to the fear of falling short of expectations." I hate comments like this. The best leaders I know with the highest of standards have failed a thousand times.
2. Increased Resilience
"Facing fears in leadership roles enhances resilience." Someone who is scared is not resilient. Those leaders that can face EVERYTHING and move are resilient.
Leaders learn to bounce back stronger from setbacks and obstacles.
3. Empathy and Understanding
"Leaders who have experienced fear can empathize with team members' uncertainties." We all face fear. Get past this thinking. Just give everyone on the team the space to FEAR. Give the the space and the example of facing everything and moving This is the key to unlocking courage in each person.
Try it today. Every key decision you face today look at in through FEAR. Face Everything and Rise.
